The annual English 10H Author Study project has begun. This year we have adjusted our approach to research with the introduction to research through our Chromebooks.
Each English 10H class has visited the library for research instruction. Upon arrival each student is issued a Chromebook to use. Students learn how to log on to the device. We then proceed to Destiny and create accounts.
Destiny instruction includes the use of the Resource List feature, broadening and narrowing our searches and using the Citation List to start the MLA formatted Works Cited page.
Students are also shown the ins and outs of our subscription databases, EBSCO and ProQuest. The RBV library is fortunate right now to have some free trials of the Rosen and World Book databases. We are checking each one out to see if we should add these to our collection in the future.
The 24/7 availability of resources is also demonstrated to the classes. The RBV library has over 400 eBooks for students to access in addition to the databases.
Finally, no research instruction is complete without a discussion of the C.R.A.P. test and how to know the sources used are current, reliable, authoritative and with an appropriate purpose. We love Roxanne!
Students are then shown how to log out of the Chromebooks and the importance of protecting themselves online is discussed.
These types of lessons are available to any classes. Stop by to see what we can design for you.
