Impossible!

How is it possible that three months have passed since I have last posted to this blog? I will tell you how. The RBV library has been incredibly busy, that's how!

The new emphasis on Common Core State Standards has renewed an interest in research as teachers develop and modify the curriculum. The Teacher Librarian has been rediscovered and is in constant demand. Yay!!!

As with most years, the first visits are library orientation and SSR visits. We had a lot of fun discovering new books through the Speed Dating activity shared by the MVHS librarian. Students really seemed to enjoy this way to find an engaging book for their SSR time.

October brought a new challenge. Our new AP Environmental Science teacher introduced her students to college-level work in the form of a Literature Review. We had many lessons in the library to show the students how to find peer-reviewed journal articles. APA format was the next lesson, along with the structure of the lit. review. If any of these students are college-bound in a science field, they shouldn't be surprised by the requirement to present their work in APA format.

We shifted gears for November into the world of history. World History 1 honors students began work on their National History Day projects. World History 1 students began a study of countries in Africa and the Middle East. Longhorn Librarian was scheduled to the max teaching research skills and MLA format. We even squeezed in a few English 11 students who were researching potential careers. Whew!

Now December is here, and it is almost time for Winter Break. I am catching up on my cataloging to get some new books ready for the kids to have over the break. And...I'm catching up on my blog.

I hope everyone has a wonderful break. I think I will have to make a New Year's resolution to do a better job blogging. After all, there is so much going on here in the RBV library, I need to spread the word.
